IR - App. 9 - Oral Presentation of GA papers at General Assemblies

Preparation

The local organisers of the General Assembly provide a schedule with the time available for each presentation.
Presentations should be planned so that at least one third of the time is available for discussion.
What audiences want is that the speaker "tell his/her story briefly in a conversational style". Experience with many successful presentations shows that they should cover:
- a clear statement of the problem dealt with,
- a brief description of the approach/method, and
- a forceful review of conclusions.

It is strongly advised to not read out (a part of) the GA paper.

Slides or presentation material should be prepared to align with:
- the technical facilities at the venue; the local organisers of the General Assembly should provide information on these technical facilities well in time;
- the time available; as an indication, limit the presentation to 10-15 slides, with a focus on the essence and contribution of the work presented.

The first slide should contain the following information:
1. Logo of CIRP;
2. Details of the conference (Name, place, date);
3. Title of the GA paper and link to the DOI;
4. Author(s);
5. Contact details of the presenting author.
The other slides may contain the CIRP logo and/or a logo of the authors' affiliation.

Presentation

The Chairperson of the Session has the power to stop the oral presentation of a GA paper if it is not of sufficient quality. No photographing of the presentations’ screens is permitted during the meetings.

Facilities

The local organisers of the General Assembly provide facilities for the presentation. In general, this includes beamer(s) and/or screen(s), a computer, and sound system where required.
The local organisers of the General Assembly announce how and when presentations can be transferred to the presentation setup.
Presentations should be clearly visible to the audience; this is to be tested prior to the session.
