THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY FOR PRODUCTION ENGINEERING

IR - App. 8 - Rules and time-table for submitting and evaluating General Assembly (GA) Keynote papers

1. GA KEYNOTE PAPERS

A GA keynote paper is intended to provide an overview of the state of the art in a given scientific field. It should also discuss future research directions and potential industrial applications. As a general guideline, approximately 75 % of the paper should focus on the current state of the art, while the remaining 25 % should address future perspectives and research opportunities.
A GA keynote paper should not merely be a literature review. Rather, it should provide a critical synthesis of the field, organizing and integrating existing knowledge to present a coherent perspective on the scientific area addressed by the paper.
Each year, GA keynote papers are published in full in Issue 2 of the current volume of CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology.

2. SUBMITTING GA KEYNOTE PAPERS

Papers for publication in the CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology can only be submitted through Elsevier's Editorial Manager (EM) platform: https://www.editorialmanager.com/cirp .
For manuscript preparation and formatting, authors should consult the detailed instructions and templates provided on the above website of the Journal.
The preferred length of GA keynote papers is 24 pages, including references, when prepared using the prescribed templates.
For general ethics and publishing policies, including the use of language, the application of generative artificial intelligence in manuscript preparation and peer review, as well as for proofs, open access and copyright the Publisher's current policies apply. These up-to-date policies are available on the Journal's website.

3. AUTHORSHIP RULES

Each GA keynote paper must be led by a Fellow or Associate Member of CIRP who has agreed to undertake this effort. Initially, this lead author acts as the coordinator and is to be assisted by a number of additional CIRP members and non-members who have voluntarily agreed to contribute to the paper. Only active contributors who have written substantial parts of the GA keynote paper should be included in the list of authors.
Persons who have submitted papers to be referenced and do not play a clear role in the preparation of the GA keynote paper should be mentioned in the acknowledgements.
Only under motivated conditions that must be justified to the Editor-in-Chief of the CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology in writing, should the number of authors exceed four (4).
A member cannot be lead author for two consecutive years.
The lead author, i.e. the coordinator and corresponding author, should be the first name in the list of authors. Only in exceptional cases, can the presenter not be the lead author. This must be approved in advance by the Editor-in-Chief of CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology.

4. CRediT AUTHOR STATEMENT

A GA keynote CRediT Author Statement must be included for the paper authorship. It is the responsibility of the lead author and the involved STC(s) to develop the CRediT statement. The CRediT statement must be first filled in during the approval, and then subsequently updated whenever there is a change in authorship of the GA keynote paper during the preparation. Only the final version of the CRediT Author Statement should be uploaded together with the paper submission. The form is available on the internal CIRP website.

5. CHANGES

Once a GA keynote paper proposal has been approved by the Council, any changes to its title or list of authors require the approval of the relevant STC Board and the Editor-in-Chief of CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology. Changes should be recorded in the GA keynote’s CRediT Author Statement.

6. REVIEWING GA KEYNOTE PAPERS

A GA keynote paper must be reviewed by at least four CIRP members with expertise in the subject area of the paper. One or two reviewers represent the relevant STC Board, while the remaining reviewers are selected from the Editorial and Review Boards of CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology.
A Cross STC GA keynote paper must be reviewed and approved by at least two of the relevant STC Chairs and two CIRP members selected from the Editorial and Review Boards of CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology.

If necessary, additional CIRP members may be invited by the Editor-in-Chief to provide expert review.
